After another dark day on Montenegrin roads when two young men were killed in accidents, Minister of Internal Affairs Danilo Šaranović appeals to drivers to drive responsibly and thus protect their lives and the lives of others.
Although he is in favor of stiffening the penalties for negligent drivers, Šaranović points out that this is not a measure that can be implemented quickly, but that they have strengthened controls and are acting preventively.
Šaranović said this at a press conference regarding the creation of conditions for police work and the procurement of new vehicles.
When asked if he thought there was room to tighten the penalties, the minister replied that he was "always in favor of it".
"For that, a legislative initiative is necessary, which must be coordinated with the parliament, the government and other institutions from the security sector, so it is certainly an integral part of the strategic plan that should respond to this very complex problem. We appeal to drivers every day to behave conscientiously in a way that will not only protect their lives but also the lives of other road users. After four years, the police helicopter will monitor key roads in Montenegro every day during the tourist season that next year, among other things, Montenegro will get a system of stationary radars, which, as comparative practice has shown, is one of the most effective ways to reduce the number of traffic accidents," Šaranović said.
