Cats also fight for the attention of tourists in Kotor's Old Town. So Matthew from England decided to visit this ancient city precisely because of them.
"The cats are one of the reasons why I came to Kotor, I saw the pictures on the networks and it makes me very happy to see them live, they are so friendly, they enjoy the attention they get, as if they know the city is theirs," he says.
And they won the heart of a local woman, Danijela Knežević, who has been taking care of them for years.
"They have always been there, they are useful, in the sense that they are good hunters...", she says.
Kotor without cats, Danijela says, would be like a sea without waves, that's why everyone in the local community tries to make them feel welcome.
