Even the third attempt of the ruling majority in the Berane Municipality Assembly to elect Damjan Ćulafić from the Democrats as the President of the Municipality, in accordance with the coalition agreement, failed.

The continuation of the session that was interrupted yesterday, and which was scheduled for today at 15 pm, was postponed due to the lack of quorum.

The session was attended by 13 councilors from the opposition Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) and the Socialist People's Party (SNP), while councilors from the governing parties did not appear.

The election of Ćulafić, after Vuko Todorović from the New Serbian Democracy (NSD) resigned after two years in that position, is opposed by Movement for Change councilors Miloš Rmus and Milorad Đukić, who was expelled from the NSD two days ago.

The Beran opposition says that everything is ready for new elections and they believe that the deadline for the election of the President of the Municipality expires tomorrow.

"The only solution is the upcoming elections. As for the deadlines, the deadlines for the election of the president are very clear and the election for the president is tomorrow, which means that religious days, public holidays, non-working days are not counted at all. That can be judged by lawyers and jurists. they have a clear position. The last date for the election of the president is always July 13, 2024," said DPS councilor Branislav Jokić.

"What did we get with the session today, which was scheduled for 15:15 p.m., to be informed at 96:XNUMX p.m. that the session will not take place. Deadlines are extended until Tuesday, the Rules of Procedure are interpreted, the law is interpreted, although the majority's opinion is that the legal deadlines expire tomorrow evening for the election of the President of the Municipality.
