The fires in Štitovo in Danilovgrad, Drenovštica near Nikšić, Vrmac in Kotor and Brajići above Budva are still active, but the situation is under control, said the director of the Directorate for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Miodrag Bešović.
In "Colors of the Morning" on TV Vijesti, he pointed out that the protection system proved to be functional, both at the local and state level.
He stressed that appeals to avoid setting fires in the open did not bear fruit, adding that most fires are caused by human factors.
"I think that the activities of inspections, administrations and the police, of course, and the prosecutor's office and the judiciary should be strengthened. If we show some examples that these people will be sanctioned and punished, and we know that the law stipulates for causing a general danger a punishment of six months to five years , then probably some of those verdicts would influence people who are negligent to think about what consequences they themselves will suffer and that, based on that, they no longer have the urge to start fires and light fires in the open, intentionally or unintentionally," concluded Bešović.
