Garbage from the capital, but also from Cetinje, Danilovgrad, Plužin, Šavnik, Tuza and Zeta, and recently also from Nikšić, is deposited at the Podgorica landfill, since there is no more disposal at the Mislov landfill.
"For these first 25 days of August, about 6.500 tons of municipal waste have arrived from Podgorica, and 1.200 have arrived from Nikšić, so that is about 20 percent of what Podgorica delivers, Nikšić is like another set of smaller municipalities. What as for the financial situation, it will cost the municipality of Nikšić some 40.000 on a monthly basis, which means a lot to us", said the director of the Podgorica company "Deponija" Aleksandar Božović.
Božović boasted that twice as much packaging material is taken out of the trash and sold than in previous years. Nevertheless, we must think about new technologies and projects, the first of which is the production of electricity from biogas from the landfill, for which the study will be completed by the end of the year.
The rest of the electricity could be used to charge some future electric city buses or it could be used for 400 surrounding households. Another important project is the Incinerator.
The incinerator should cost more than 150 million euros, and the return on the investment in the worst case scenario, without donations and favorable loans, is ten to eleven years.
