Dr. Sanja Medenica from the Institute of Public Health said that they have another reported case of chive infection in the population.
"We are talking about a patient who is 73, an ongoing epidemiological investigation," she said in Boje jutra on TV Vijesti.
He adds that the patient did not mention contact with sick animals.
"The infectious disease clinic reported the case to us," she explained.
Earlier, two cases of infection were reported in Danilovgrad.
"We can expect new cases, especially among people who are at the highest risk, that is, who were in contact with sick animals," said Medenica.
She indicated that the Institute is currently conducting epidemiological surveillance of 28 persons.
"I think 14 people are currently under epidemiological surveillance for Nikšić, our colleague from Nikšić is doing that, we also have some samples that have been sent to the Institute for testing," she added.
She said that the basic preventive measure is to pasteurize and boil milk and that all dairy products are prepared from pasteurized milk.
Đaković: We will ask for help from the Government
Locals from Nikšić and Danilovgrad municipalities have been protesting for the past few days because of the locations where euthanized animals were buried or this was planned.
Vladimir Đaković, director of the Administration for Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Affairs, says that digging up animals would be much more dangerous than what has already been done.
"We will go to the Government with information, to ask for help, to help us determine one or more locations in Montenegro, which will be binding, because this is no longer a solution," he said.
Đaković said that there are more than 20 animals in Nikšić that will be euthanized, and nine more in Danilovgrad.
"Until yesterday, we euthanized 103 PCR-positive (cows). I do not rule out the possibility that the number will reach 200, or perhaps exceed that number," he added.
He also referred to food safety.
"All milk that undergoes thermal treatment, and all dairies in Montenegro thermally process all milk, is absolutely safe for human consumption. Also, there is currently no record of any farm that produces cheese without any sore throat," he pointed out.
Đaković said that the payment of damages to farms that were the first to be affected by the infection will begin this or next week.
He believes that the situation is currently under control.
