If the people of Gusin, who plant potatoes, are guided by the proverb "As you sow, so you reap", they do not have to worry because they have fertile land at the foot of Prokleti.
Potato production in Gusinje has increased in recent years due to the opening of a chip factory in Tuzi.
However, the leading people of Gusinja are aware that they could have a similar factory in their town.
"We are trying to create the conditions and to somehow bring in some investors who will open a factory for the production of chips or frozen fries or something that uses potatoes, so that we can produce that raw material here," said the President of the Municipality of Gusinje Sanel Balić.
How many more potatoes have been produced in the country since the potato chip factory opened?
"I think that production increased by about 30 percent," says Balić.
Balić says that the state's support for producers has improved in the last two years, but it can always be better.
The fact that in relation to the area of the municipality, Gusinje is among the largest producers of potatoes in Montenegro, is shown by the table of reported areas of planted potatoes, which was submitted to us by the Ministry of Agriculture.
The department headed by Vladimir Joković announced that they supported potato producers through several measures in the Agrobudget. Among other things, they provide subsidies for the increase of plantings, the purchase of machinery and equipment, the construction of wells and cisterns, and they especially support young farmers and organic production.
