In 12 years, Bijelo Polje lost 6431 inhabitants, mainly due to large emigration, mostly of young people, who do not see their future in that city. He once had 17 factories and thousands of employees, and now almost 27 percent of the people of Bjelopolje are unemployed, while the national average is 11 and a half percent.
Worrying data is not an alarm for the parties to present new ideas to keep the population, but has entered into a political fight.
The valorization of the Đalović gorge and the construction of the Cmiljač Ski Center in Bjelasica are two main projects in Bijelo Polje, which were started during the mandate of the former Prime Minister from DPS, Duško Marković. They were planned to be completed by the end of Marković's mandate, but this did not happen even during the three governments of his successors.
Nevertheless, the Democrats, who have been in government for years, still insist that the local DPS is to blame for the mass emigration from Bijelo Polje, while the DPS respond that it is a case of smearing and disappearances.
