The Ministry of Spatial Planning, Urbanism and State Property plans to create a catalog of buildings in public use, after which they will assess their stability and the eventual need for reconstruction.
The issue of safety was raised by the recent tragedy with the canopy at the Railway Station in Novi Sad, but experts point out that the old buildings were built with much better quality, and that newer buildings are especially unsafe.
In the Association of Architects KANA, they believe that this was primarily caused by the cancellation of construction and use permits, which lowered construction standards.
