For the fifth time, Berana businessmen, whose buildings should be demolished due to the construction of the German LIDL market, protested in front of the Municipality of Berana.
Land tenants and owners of temporary buildings, at today's gathering, demanded that the Municipality find a new location for the construction of LIDL.
The Municipality of Berana previously announced that all legal procedures had been completed according to which the location for the construction of LIDL had been chosen.
As TV News unofficially learns, the Municipality of Berane will build a new market, which is in the conceptual design phase, and in which priority will be given to the owners of buildings that will most likely be demolished by the end of the year due to the construction of LIDL.
However, the tenants say that they will not allow anyone to evict them from the existing buildings.
"We expected that some process of negotiation, agreement would start. However, nothing came of that. So, they persist in their solution. We, normally, persist in ours and it will be like this until the end. Probably some conflicts that will come between us and them. Nobody will leave, nor will they close the shop, nor will they empty the goods, and so on, so it will not go as they think, so easily," said Aco Vuković, the owner of one of the facilities.
"We did not expect that the Municipality of Berane would turn its back on us and leave us without a crust of bread. I hope that the Municipality of Berana will propose a new location and thereby protect us from hunger and decay. If the Municipality does not do this, we will organize and defend our local lives," said Džeko Skenderović, the owner of one of the buildings.
SPP: This move may result in serious economic consequences for hundreds of families who will lose their main source of income
The Justice and Reconciliation Party (SPP) announced that they are concerned about the plans of the Municipality of Berana to remove temporary facilities in the zone located on the municipal land in the center of the city, in order to sell it to the international market chain LIDL.
"This move can result in serious economic consequences for hundreds of families who will lose their basic source of income. SPP strongly supports the economic development of Beran and we are open to new investments that can contribute to the prosperity of our community. However, we believe that progress must not come at the expense of our local entrepreneurs and small businesses. Depriving a large number of families of a roof over their heads and a source of income can have long-term negative consequences for the social and economic stability of the city," says the SPP announcement.
Economist and candidate for councilor on the "SPP-samo pravo" list, Edin Ramdedović, proposes an alternative solution that would meet the needs of all parties.
In his opinion, the Municipality should offer the existing land to the temporary owners of the premises, with the possibility of repayment in installments and an appropriate grace period, in order to provide them with sustainability and security.
"At the same time, we appeal to the Municipality to consider alternative locations for Lidl, such as the Rudeš industrial zone, the land on the bypass near the old Eurošuntić parking lot, or Gradinski polje, which can adequately fulfill the function that Lidl plans to achieve. The municipality of Berane has already experienced economic failure once population in the Rudeš industrial zone, when a large number of citizens were left without income due to the closure of production plants and factories. Therefore, the Municipality must show that it takes care of its residents and their economic interests first and foremost, in order to avoid similar consequences in the future," says the SPP announcement.
The party emphasizes that the local economy must not depend only on the arrival of large chains, but also on the support and protection of existing small businesses that form the backbone of Beran's economy.
"With faith in joint dialogue and in the interest of all citizens of Beran, we invite the Municipality to consider the proposed alternatives and reach an agreement that will enable economic development while preserving the rights and safety of local entrepreneurs," concludes the SPP announcement.
