Formation of the government in Budva: Everything is left to declare victory

A week after the elections in Budva, everything is the same as before. Until today, representatives of the parties were supposed to respond or be invited to talks about the five points for the recovery of Budva presented by the holder of the list "Budva - our city" Nikola Jovanović, but that did not happen.

Most of the parties are waiting to receive a formal invitation, and Jovanović is ready to talk with his former party colleagues, and now his biggest political rival, the "For the Future of Budva" coalition. Nevertheless, he says once again that the leading position in the Municipality belongs to him.

Last Sunday, everyone was proclaiming victory in Budva and until today everything has remained just that.

The key to the formation of the government, with nine mandates won each, is held by the same actors as after the elections in May, so the position of the mayor of the municipality is aspired to by the sharply opposed holder of the list "For the future of Budva" Mladen Mikijelj and the leader of the list "Budva - our city" Nikola Jovanović.

Jovanović believes that the number of mandates between the two currents is not equal.

"When you have a list made up of ten political entities that won nine mandates - that is, no political entity, let's say, can get one, but that's 0,9, and when you have our election list that itself won nine mandate, then things are very clear here. And compared to the last election, we won 236 more votes. The electoral will of the citizens of Budva is completely clear and that the position of the President of the Municipality belongs to us according to the electoral will of the citizens of Budva, and that the others should respect that," said Jovanović for Television News.

Recently, Jovanović, presenting a platform for the recovery of Budva, publicly invited political subjects to negotiations.

The focus of that plan includes the rationalization of local self-government, the unblocking of institutions, the rehabilitation of urban chaos and the improvement of infrastructure, as well as solving communal problems.

To a specific question from Television Vijesti, whether he still maintains the position that he will not negotiate with the "For the Future of Budva" coalition, with which he clashed sharply during the campaign, Jovanović answers:

"We made invitations, depending on whether someone wants to talk to us about these important topics. Those themes imply the absence of all kinds of deviant behavior in those political structures. I really cannot be responsible for the actions of other political entities, but I am ready to work for all those who want good for this city, either through the government or through the opposition, and I think that is what the citizens expect from us."

And while the coalition headed by Mikijelj refuses to speak to Television Vijesti, saying that they have nothing to say about the negotiations yet, the other parties in Budva are waiting to receive an official invitation to dialogue.

The leader of the Budva Movement for the City, Đorđe Zenović, who won two council seats, says that no one has yet invited him, while the Citizens' Movement URA, which has one mandate, states that after the official invitation, they will talk to everyone who offers constructive proposals.

The same is the case with the Budva Democrats and the Europe Now Movement (PES), whose list won three mandates.

The holder of that list in the elections in Budva, Dragana Kažanegra Stanišić, told Television Vijesti that they are ready for negotiations only on the condition that the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) is excluded from them.

He points out that in his call, Jovanović did not specify his distance from the DPS, which will occupy seven seats in the local parliament.

This party does not answer whether they are ready to participate in negotiations or who they could be a potential partner.

And while the negotiations are pending, the pearl of Montenegrin tourism remains in a political impasse, while the citizens are still waiting for a solution that would enable the normal functioning of the city.
