More than 23.500 people from Beran will elect a new government in extraordinary elections next Sunday, because the agreed rotation in the post of municipal president between the New Serbian Democracy and the Democrats failed this summer.
After the previous elections in 2022, a stable government of 19 councilors was created by the Democratic Front, the Democrats, the Berane Sad list, Prava and United Montenegro by sending the then-ruling Socialist People's Party (SNP) into opposition with seven councilors because that party then entered the minority Government of Dritan Abazović.
DPS, although individually the strongest with nine councilors, has been in opposition in Berane for over 10 years, and now the ruling parties at the state level exclude cooperation with them.
