Five days after the members of the NeonoeN band won the Montesong Montesong competition, the controversy surrounding the legality of their song continues to attract public attention. Namely, there were allegations that the song, which was chosen to represent Montenegro at Eurovision, was performed before the contest itself, which could lead to disqualification.

Although it was announced that the decision on possible disqualification would be made in consultation with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the process was prolonged. Regarding the current situation, Ilija Pejović, a member of the band NeonoeN, told Boje jutra TV Vijesti that their victory is not in question.

"Our victory is not in question. A video appeared that we didn't even hide. As a band that plays exclusively original repertoire, we often perform our songs in their working form at concerts," said Pejović, stressing that the group did not violate the rules of the competition.

According to Pejović, the song was never broadcast or used commercially. Interpreting the rules of the contest, he points out that the working version of the song, which was played live, is not identical to the final version presented at Montessong.

"From our perspective, we have not broken the rules. However, if it is determined otherwise, we will accept the decision because we are legalists. We have great support from the public, fellow musicians and regional partners, which gives us an additional incentive," he added.

Pejović also referred to the importance of the competition, emphasizing its contribution to the music scene:

"The greatest value of Montesong is that the music is being talked about. Regardless of the controversies, we believe that this is an opportunity for Montenegrin music to be affirmed both domestically and on the European level."

An official decision is awaited, which, as stated, will be crucial for the further course of preparations for Eurovision. The band NeonoeN points out that they will respect the final verdict, putting the interests of the Montenegrin music scene in the foreground.
