TV Vijesti: Government and opposition could continue negotiations this weekend

After everyone remained on their sides at Monday's meeting, representatives of the government and opposition could sit down at the table again this weekend and continue talks on overcoming the political crisis, TV Vijesti has learned unofficially.

The European Union Delegation in Podgorica, which organized the meeting between Prime Minister Milojko Spajić and the leaders of the opposition DPS and SD, Danijel Živković and Damir Šehović, told TV Vijesti that it is up to political actors to agree on a solution to the crisis due to the termination of the mandate of constitutional judge Dragana Đuranović, and that the EU is ready to facilitate that process.

"It is up to the political actors in Montenegro to reach a political agreement on requesting an opinion from the Venice Commission and commit to respecting it. We encourage all political actors to jointly support key European reforms in the Parliament, so that the country remains on track to meet its ambitious goal of closing all chapters by the end of 2026," the EU Delegation said.

The question is, however, if the ruling and opposition parties need to reach an agreement, why, apart from the Prime Minister, who is the leader of PES, do not representatives of the other ruling parties - Nova, Democrats, DNP, SNP and minorities - participate in the talks?

Television Vijesti only managed to get a comment on this from the SNP today. They believe that they are not excluded from the talks, they are in favor of an agreement, but not at any price.

"I am sure that Prime Minister Spajić is aware of the diversity of the parliamentary majority and that he absolutely takes that into account during the conversation. What we agreed on is Barometer 26 and we believe that Prime Minister Spajić came out to the opposition with that platform," says SNP MP Slađana Kaluđerović.

The Prime Minister repeated last night on the X network that he had offered them a pro-European platform for joint action by all political actors towards the EU and the obligation to fulfill the European agenda. They, on the other hand, reiterated that they were ready to sign an agreement to resolve the crisis and return to the Parliament, but with a guarantee that without consensus, solutions that divide the public will not be proposed, such as amendments to the Constitution and the Law on Montenegrin Citizenship. Spajić wrote that insisting on polarizing topics slows down European integration and that there is no time for polarizing issues.

"For us, polarizing topics are not what represents the basis, better functioning of citizens in the event of their adoption. This is not a national issue, this is a state and vital issue. We consider it absolutely unacceptable to place a moratorium on decisions that should reconcile the population somewhere, that divide and that need to be completed somewhere. No conditioning or political blackmail by the DPS is acceptable," says Kaluđerović.

What will be acceptable to whom from now on and whether an agreement will be reached is a question that awaits a final answer. And whether the government and the opposition are closer or further away from it, we will know after the next meeting.
