What happened to state-owned hotels in Montenegro and have they suffered worse in the last two decades than in the devastating earthquake of 1979? How is it possible that as many as 14 of them on the coast are not operating, and in exclusive locations that were a magnet for tourists even half a century ago...
These are the topics addressed in the new documentary-investigative film by Television Vijesti "Sunken Hotels", by Marko Mišić, which you could watch on Wednesday at 20 p.m.
Tourism is our strategic branch of development, especially after the country became independent. Why then did the state of Montenegro act in these cases as if it were cutting the branch it was sitting on and why did the authorities allow the demolition of hotels when reconstruction was possible? Why was no one ever held accountable for all the failures on our coast.
In the film you will see the story of the most important hotels in Herceg Novi, Kotor, Tivat, Budva and Ulcinj. For some of these locations, there is barely a glimmer of hope that one day there will be high-quality tourism again, and for some hotels it is expected that they will soon be back on the market.
