Parents and families of people with autism will hold a protest in front of the Government building next Wednesday, when the International Day of People with Autism is being celebrated. They will present 10 demands, including the establishment of a registry, the establishment of a Day Center for the Capital, a modern center for autism, a Faculty for Special Educators, and the Law on Parent Caregivers. Tamara Pejović, a guest on TV Vijesti's Boje jutra, the parent of a child with autism who filed the protest, said that she will not give up.
"I expect perhaps some dialogue, and I certainly promise that if there continues to be ignoring as there has been so far, I really think that these protests will continue and we will not stop until all ten demands are met. Rest assured, we will not remain silent any longer," Pejović stressed.
"In addition to the protest, the non-governmental association 'Niste sami' has issued an open call to all decision-makers to visit children and adults with autism in the institutions where they spend their days and in their homes on April 2, with the message "Put on our shoes," announced Goran Laković from the NGO 'Niste sami'."
"I really expect that a large number of people will show up. The message is that there are no negotiations and no discussions about these ten demands because these are not things that are negotiable. We cannot negotiate with them about our children, about the future of our children," he said.
