The tenant of the Steelworks and Forge, a facility of the Niksic Steelworks, Igor Šamiz and the Swiss consortium 8B Kapital he represents, are still not honoring the contract he signed with the management of Elektroprivreda this summer, which came into effect on October 1st last year.
As Televizija Vijesti has learned unofficially, the Board of Directors of Elektroprivreda recently gave Šamiz a deadline of March 25 to pay the outstanding rent of 30.000 euros that he owes to Elektroprivreda, which he failed to comply with.
Šamiz is also not honoring the contract on hiring workers at EPCG Željezara Nikšić. So far, only two engineers have been hired with his team at the factory, and Šamiz has sent a request to hire 13 more workers out of the 150 he committed to.
According to information from TV Vijesti, the company 8BKapital Montenegro, which he founded in January, has not signed annexes to the contract with the hired engineers, which means that their salaries will be paid by the state-owned company Željezara EPCG.
Elektroprivreda told TV Vijesti that, in accordance with the contract, debts from the previous year were supposed to be settled by March 25th, but that Šamiz asked them to extend it by ten days due to administrative procedures, which they accepted.
"In the meantime, Mr. Šamiz has submitted documentation confirming the concluded contracts for the procurement of necessary equipment for the needs of the Steel Plant, worth several hundred thousand euros. This step further confirms the seriousness of the investor's intentions and provides grounds for optimism regarding the implementation of planned activities," EPCG told TV Vijesti.
They add that EPCG does not suffer any financial damage based on the contract with Šamiz and that they remain committed to seeking a sustainable and long-term solution, while respecting contractual obligations and protecting the interests of the company, its employees, and the local community.
Šamiz promised that some production in the leased facilities of the Steel Mill would begin in June.
