Commenting on the signing of the agreement between Montenegro and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on economic cooperation and joint investment, Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) MP Nikola Milović, on Boje jutra on TV Vijesti, points out that it is finally time for Montenegro to think about foreign direct investment and connecting with investors after five years of stagnation.
However, he does not agree that signing an agreement to lease state land for 99 years in this way is correct.
"Everything is under a great veil of secrecy and we believe that there are significant investors who should invest in Montenegro, but the way it is presented to the Montenegrin public like this and when an investor is brought 'not through the door, but through the window' is very problematic. It is not good when it is done this way - non-transparently, when you suspend domestic legislation, when no one in the state of Montenegro is informed, except that you see that some agreement was made overnight, and members of the Government agreed on it, for an hour via a telephone session. I think that the complete speed of this process, some secrecy, significantly burdens investment, although we know that there are very significant investors who can come from those areas," Milović pointed out.
He added that this is a continuation of big promises and a "billboard" economy, where we have the presentation of megalomaniacal projects, and very little has actually been done.
"Of all the investments announced by Prime Minister Milojko Spajić - over billions from Japan, what is related to Velje Brdo, over Glovo deliveries and all that, we have enough reason not to believe what the Prime Minister's intentions are when it comes to this plan," said Milović.
He pointed out that according to research conducted by the DPS, but based on other sources, ahead of the Nikšić elections, which are scheduled for April 13th, the city under Trebjes is "doing well".
"We expect a convincing victory in Nikšić. I can say that the latest surveys we conducted indicate that we will certainly have over 40 percent of the vote, and I think that we will manage to form a government with our traditional partners, and that it will go smoothly. The citizens of Montenegro saw how it ended in Podgorica, the citizens of Montenegro saw that their trust was betrayed, and the citizens of Montenegro saw that, even though you won 30 percent, even though you launched a cycle that concerns the elections themselves, that in the end there were some unprincipled coalitions. They saw that the ruling majority is bound by something that is a common interest, and that is just to preserve power, regardless of what the citizens think about it," Milović concluded.
