The ever-worst security situation in the Royal Capital and the silence of the authorities regarding their demands - these are the reasons why the Democratic Party of Socialists club decided to leave the councilors' benches in the Cetinje parliament.
"The role of the councilor has essentially become meaningless, as representatives of the citizens we have returned the mandate to the citizens. Through our actions we have failed to influence the competent institutions and make the security situation in the Royal Capital more favorable, and thus Cetinje a safer place to live. This is a cry, this is a cry of helplessness," said DPS councilor Oskar Huter.
And they say they feel powerless because the authorities have not provided a single relevant response to their requests in almost three years since the great tragedy in Medovina. And since then, several more tragedies and criminal clashes have occurred.
On the other hand, the mayor of Cetinje, Nikola Đurašković from the SDP, criticizes this move by the DPS, which he sees as cheap advertising before the elections.
"The resignation a few months before the end of the mandate is nothing more than the beginning of the election campaign. Instead of unity, the fight for the city and its citizens, and support for changing things for the better in Cetinje, the DPS councilors have once again confirmed that they are only interested in elections and the fight for power. It is strange that the entire DPS does not resign in the state parliament, which, unlike the Cetinje and city administrations, is responsible for security in the country, including in Cetinje," said Đurašković.
DPS does not want to argue with Đurašković, but they still state:
"I believe his role should be one of unification, that he should be the first among equals and defend this city together with us," said Huter.
And in that city, music has been quiet lately. There will be no music in May either, as the Mayor of the Royal Capital has decided to cancel the musical events as part of the “May in a Thousand Colors” bazaar in the Royal Capital. He called on citizens to come together and announced that, in anticipation of Independence Day, numerous sports and cultural programs, as well as those for children and families, will be organized.
