Today, in a plenary session, MPs discussed the semi-annual report on European integration presented by Minister of European Affairs Maida Gorčević, amid fierce ideological debates.
While the minister is satisfied with what has been achieved, citing the closing of three negotiation chapters and obtaining IBAR, criticism is coming from the opposition, primarily due to the stalling of key reforms.
Not missing this opportunity to use the plenum as an ideological ring for a discussion about Chetniks, anti-fascists, Veljko Belivuk and his bosses, the deputies discussed the semi-annual report on activities in the European integration process, which was presented by Gorčević.
The Minister recalled the closing of three chapters and the receipt of IBAR, and said that Montenegro must seize the historic opportunity and join the family of European countries.
"I hope that by the end of the week, the first tranche of almost 27 million euros will be paid, part of which will be used for infrastructure projects and part for investment in reforms. And in the end, I think what is very important is that we all don't worry about the drawers. There is a lot of material in the drawers, both now and in the previous period, and all those drawers will be opened because if we don't empty them, believe me, we will not be welcome in the European Union," Gorčević emphasized.
It was precisely the keeping of important decisions in drawers, such as the election of the seventh judge of the Constitutional Court, that was criticized by the Social Democrats (SD), whose president Boris Mugoša called the ruling majority a "pickle coalition".
"I claim that this majority, as it is, cannot bring Montenegro into the EU, because I am sure that a good part of it is truly and essentially not in favor of it," Mugoša pointed out.
Ivan Vuković from the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) said that the government's moves over the past year have often been contrary to Montenegro's European path, for which he cited as a key example the controversial amendments to the Public Service Act and the fact that four out of 12 IBAR laws are already being amended.
He also criticized the dispute with Croatia over the Jasenovac Resolution, and the signing of an agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) without a public debate and the opinion of the European Commission.
"Your colleagues are nonchalantly, arrogantly reacting to what are no longer suggestions, but open criticisms coming from Brussels, ignoring the expectations of the European Commission," Vuković said.
The head of the Democratic Montenegro Parliamentary Group, Boris Bogdanović, noted, on the other hand, that the Reports on EU integration activities speak of two Montenegros.
"One, which was learning how to deceive Europe, and the other that started yesterday. The first one has opened 33 chapters in the past few decades, and closed three in 11 years. The second one has closed three chapters in just one year, the same as the previous one in 11 years," said Bogdanović.
Ahead of the session at which the Reports on Activities in European Integration were discussed, Minister Gorčević answered parliamentary questions.
Apart from his party colleague from the Europe Now Movement (PES), Jovan Subotić, who asked the minister which chapters could be expected to be closed in the second half of the year, only five MPs attended the special session.
"When Denmark takes over the presidency, I expect it to be closed, I assume officially at an international conference somewhere, and four chapters - 3, 6, 11 and 13," said Gorčević.
The session on the semi-annual report on activities in the European integration process continues tomorrow.
