On this day, exactly nineteen years ago, the citizens of Montenegro decided to forge their own path - independently, sovereignly, with faith in a better future.
Nineteen years later, Montenegro continues to balance between ideals and reality. While political elites remain focused on symbols, divisions, and vested interests, citizens face injustice, economic survival, and institutional inefficiency on a daily basis.
Although they are proud of their country, many feel that the promises of 2006 have not been fulfilled - neither in the area of the rule of law, nor in economic development. Corruption, poverty and divisions continue to mark the social reality.
