Kristijan is a boy with autism from the Nikoljac settlement in Bijelo Polje, who lives with his family in difficult and inadequate conditions.

The house they started building themselves remained unfinished, and the daily challenges of Christian's illness are further complicated by the struggle for a minimum dignified life.

The brick house was supposed to replace the space currently occupied by the five-member family of the boy Kristijan from Nikoljac, near Bijelo Polje.

Kristijan, a boy with autism, lives in a 25 square meter apartment filled with toys, humidity, and uncertainty.

His mother Biljana says that she has been contacting the relevant institutions for years, but so far, she says, little has changed.

"He needs a roof over his head, a quiet life, and not just him, there are other children who, due to the poor conditions, because it's an old house. I'm ashamed to say, there are mice and bugs coming through, because we renovated the floor but the laminate is ruined, so they have to sleep with the light on. And then they have to sleep longer during the day, because I'm not allowed to turn off the light," said Biljana Gordić, Kristijan's mother.

The family tried to adapt the old house and provide Kristijan and his sisters with better living conditions. They took out a loan, believing that they would succeed, but the money was not enough to complete the work. Now, due to unresolved property relations, Kristijan's brick house remains unfinished.

Biljana is now appealing to institutions, but also good people, to help them build a new house or obtain a suitable living space.

"Kristijan needs a room, children and a yard. Kristijan cannot be kept like in prison, even in prison there is a fenced yard where you can go out, and Kristijan has to go directly to the street," said Gordić.

Parents, who are often their only support in life, know best how unpredictable and difficult the lives of people with autism are.

"I can't take him to school, but Kristijan doesn't understand that he can't stay in the sun and he wants to stay longer. I can't live in the schoolyard, I can't live in the park, there are also attacks when a child wants to run, Kristijan wants to overtake him, then I have to hug him, and we come back from the park tired, because that's not a game, that's not Kristijan's vacation," said Gordić.

For his life to finally become a game, someone's little can mean a lot to this family.

Let's remember the boy Ognjen Rakočević, whose disappearance united Montenegro. Maybe now is the opportunity to show Kristijan that he is not alone. So that this boy could enjoy his yard by the pool with the water he loves so much.
