Montenegrin sport is entering a new phase - amendments to the Law on Sports bring broader support for amateur, professional and parasports, with a greater focus on equality and transparency, Darko Stojanović from the Ministry of Sports and Youth told Boje jutra on Vijesti Television.
"What is important with the adoption of the new law is to strengthen the institutional framework, to increase the transparency of financing, systemic support for both amateur sports and parasports, and of course professional sports, all with the aim of raising sports in Montenegro to an even higher level," says Stojanović.
A key innovation of the law is the establishment of the Sports Fund, whose task is to ensure stable and transparent financing.
"The Sports Fund is one of the things that needs to be implemented in the coming period, we will try to make it financially sustainable, inclusive and help in transparent and stable financing of sports organizations in Montenegro," said Stojanović.
Special emphasis is placed on parasports and people with disabilities.
"Of course, in that segment of parasports we have a lot of successful athletes, in the new sports legislation parasports gets a lot of its own space. Of course, we will try to systematically support all those organizations, or associations that deal with parasports. We will try to include as many people with disabilities in sports activities as possible and we will provide systemic support for that," says Stojanović.
Gender equality occupies an important place in the new Law on Sports, with a special focus on systemic support for female athletes.
"Gender equality in sports is an extremely important segment. We have targeted that part with this law. We need to give as much space as possible to women involved in sports, to finance, and to support systematically determined programs dealing with women's sports," says Stojanović.
