Video surveillance has begun at the Boljesestre water source in order to combat illegal gravel extraction from the Morača riverbed and preserve sanitary protection zones.
As Zoran Lakušić from the Regional Water Supply Company announced on Boje jutra on Vijesti Television, the cameras will cover the second sanitary protection zone, and the system will operate 24 hours a day as soon as all necessary permits are obtained.
He pointed out that illegal exploitation was stopped in 2023 thanks to the joint action of the state, the civil sector, and the water utility, but that there is still a small number of companies operating outside the law.
He also announced the construction of a nine-meter dam in the Morača riverbed, which should help maintain a stable water supply to the Montenegrin coast during the summer season.
Although water delivery is already 200 percent higher than the contracted quantities, the Regional Water Supply Company believes that the coast will have sufficient supplies, especially with the imminent commissioning of the plant for an additional 100 liters per second.
