Vušurović: Football stadium in Cetinje opens its gates in the fall

The cornerstone for the football stadium in Cetinje was laid in 2017. At that time, it was promised that the gates of the new football field would be opened in 2020. Since then, the deadline has been missed practically every year. However, the famous Montenegrin volleyball player Igor Vušurović, who has recently been at the helm of the company that will manage the stadium, is certain that the stadium will be ready in the fall. The installation of hybrid grass is one of the final steps in its construction, so the opening is expected in early October.

"Why has all this been delayed so long? There are objective circumstances, and in essence I would not go back to that now, but rather what is ahead of us. It means that Cetinje will get such a representative facility in operation after almost 8 years," said Vušurović, acting head of the city company Sports Facilities Cetinje.

The stadium will have a capacity of around 5 seats, which will satisfy, as Vušurović points out, the needs of both sports teams and numerous fans.

"As for the field itself, everything that was according to the project is here. You can see for yourself that the drainage is good too. The water supply system, or irrigation, is in function. Now all that remains is this, I won't say the most beautiful part, and something that will give it a special charm, the installation of natural and then hybrid grass. All of this will look much nicer when it is all so nicely laid out and finished," added Vušurović.

The name of the stadium has not been agreed upon, although there has been a lot of speculation about it in the past.

"My personal opinion would be that it would be a variant of stadium branding, which is certainly not an unknown practice in the world, possibly a sponsor who would have the opportunity for the stadium in Cetinje to have the name of the sponsor in its name, so some of my personal thoughts are related to that part and that some maintenance and profitability of this facility be related to one of the sponsors," said Vušurović. And who will be the first to run out for the ceremonial opening on the Cetinje field is still unknown.

"In communication with people from the football association of the capital of the state, I expect that we will find the best, I won't say the period and opponent, possibly Lovcen or one of the Montenegrin football teams that could magnify this opening in such a way as to be a rival to suit," says Vušurović.

The Cetinje stadium is finally entering its final phase, and authorities believe that from the fall it will be home to FK Lovćen and national teams, as well as a new gathering point for football fans in Montenegro.
