The case of Danilo Mandić, the informal bodyguard of parliament speaker Andrija Mandić, is back in focus today.
The ETV portal reported that Madić was in the parliamentary vehicle on April 19 when a person was injured on Ivan Crnojević Boulevard, while Mandić's lawyer Miroje Jovanović rejects such claims. This media outlet reported that gunpowder particles were found inside the parliamentary car, the Range Rover, as well as traces of Mandić's DNA. The police are keeping quiet about this for now.
Danilo Mandić, who was hired as a private security guard for his uncle and Parliament Speaker Andrija Madić, was using the parliament vehicle when the shooting occurred in the center of Podgorica and fled after the shooting. This was reported by the ETV portal, stating that the findings of the Forensic Center indicate that Mandić was driving the vehicle, as his DNA was found in several locations in the car.
Mandić's lawyer rejects the portal's allegations.
"No particle variants were found on Danilo Mandić. This was determined by expert examination. There was also no particle in the Land Rover vehicle, so this fact excludes the possibility that anyone who shot or used a firearm was in that vehicle and excludes the possibility that Danilo Mandić used a firearm. Also, DNA sampling has not indisputably established that Danilo Mandić was driving that vehicle. Not a single witness, not a single witness, confirms his participation in any disputed, critical event. And let alone the shots?", Jovanović pointed out.
There is no response from the police today regarding the media allegations.
The investigation into the case of Danilo Mandić is being conducted by the Podgorica Basic State Prosecutor's Office. He is charged with the criminal offense of causing general danger, serious bodily harm and illegal possession of a weapon. The Higher State Prosecutor's Office previously conducted the investigation for the criminal offense of attempted murder. The police determined that on April 19 in Podgorica, Mandić blocked the path of Darko Perović and Aris Turković in an official vehicle of the Parliament, and fired "several shots at them, causing injuries to the legs".
Due to the controversies surrounding the case, the Parliamentary Committee on Security and Defense will question the acting director of the Police Administration, Lazar Šćepanović, and the Supreme State Prosecutor, Milorad Marković, about the circumstances following the shooting.
"So, I ask that politics be removed from this and I will repeat my request to the Basic Court in Podgorica to provide me with a final indictment after three months."
The indictment against Danilo Mandić was filed on June 24th.
