In four days, the number of detainees on strike in Spuž has increased threefold, and more than 70 are on hunger strike, including some accused former officials.
Another form of strike, the cancellation of attorneys' powers of attorney, could cause chaos, as it would further delay trials, especially those for the most serious crimes.
If a first-instance verdict is not reached in the next six months, the defendants in 89 cases will be released. While the Supreme Court says that a strike cannot obstruct the work of the courts, lawyers once again point out that there is an alternative to detention.
