Montenegrin athlete Marija Vuković achieved a historic result – she qualified for the World Championship final and took 12th place in the world. As she said in an interview for "Boje jutra" on TV Vijesti, this is a great success for her, especially after the surgery and serious injuries that marked the previous season.
"Making it to the finals and placing among the top 12 is a huge thing for me. I feel great gratitude and pride that I endured and that I still enjoy what I do," said Vuković.
In the qualifiers, she cleared 192 centimeters, her best result this season. In the finals, she attempted 193, but, she says, fatigue and the long season took their toll.
"My legs couldn't connect with my head, but I have no regrets - I gave it my all."
Marija believes that a medal is not far away.
"The final is a great success, but I think I still have a lot to give. My confidence has returned and this is confirmation that I should keep pushing forward."
She says that the working conditions cannot be compared to those of her rivals, but that her mentality and faith are what drive her forward.
"I come from small Montenegro alone, but I show that I am at the same level. The Athletics Federation and the Olympic Committee have always been with me and that is the wind at my back."
The support she receives from citizens and young athletes is, she says, her greatest reward.
"When people write to me that I'm an example of how not to give up, it gives me extra strength."
After a busy season, he plans a short break and a return to Montenegro, followed by new preparations.
"I'm hungry for more success, I believe that next year will be even better, God willing."
