Judge of the Basic Court in Berane Dubravka Popović has once again rejected the request of the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in that city to temporarily remove the monument to the Chetnik commander, war criminal and collaborator of the occupiers, Pavle Đurišić, from the Đurđevi stupovi monastery, TV Vijesti has learned.
Although the court's non-trial panel had previously overturned her identical decision and returned the case to her for a new decision, Popović did not heed their suggestions.
The prosecution believes that the monument was erected illegally and is treating it as the subject of a criminal offense.
The monument was first moved to the church in the Berane village of Gornje Zaostro, and then to the monastery quarters of Đurđevi stupovi.
The final decision is now to be made by the Berane court's extra-judicial panel, and if Popović overturns the decision, the police will, as the president of the Basic Court in Berane, Ivan Došljak, recently told TV Vijesti, have to enter the monastery and confiscate the monument to Đurišić.
In previous days, a police presence had already been noticed in front of the monastery, which led to a protest by the Budimlje-Niksic Diocese of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
