At the dawn of 2024, Milorad Marković sat in the chair of the first man in the Prosecutor's Office.
In the last quarter of 2025, he will give an account to MPs for his work during the 12 months of the previous year. He has no doubt that he has done a good job and leaves it to MPs to make a decision.
"The Prosecutor's Office has worked diligently and dedicatedly and has achieved concrete results in the fight against organized crime and corruption, as well as other areas of crime, as well as in the protection of citizens' rights and freedoms. Special emphasis has been placed on improving professional standards of conduct, through the issuance of binding instructions from the Supreme State Prosecutor," the Supreme State Prosecutor's Office said.
The Report on the Work of the Prosecutor's Office in the past year states, among other things, that the percentage of confirmed indictments from the jurisdiction of the basic and higher prosecutor's offices in the judicial review procedure is almost flawless - 96 percent. In the meantime, out of a total of 23 indictments of the Special Prosecutor's Office against 158 individuals and five legal entities, seven indictments against 72 individuals were returned for additions or corrections.
However, it is not yet known whether the ruling majority MPs will support the work of Milorad Marković's system. Apparently, this has yet to be decided at the sessions of the parliamentary clubs, primarily by the MPs of the "For the Future of Montenegro" coalition. And it is not the only government that is weighing up, there are also those among the opposition.
"If it were only a report on the work of the Special State Prosecutor's Office together with the Special Police Team, we would have no dilemma that their work should be supported. It is questionable whether all other branches of the prosecution service are for a passing grade. We have serious problems in basic prosecutor's offices, higher prosecutor's offices, there are no results," said MP GP URA Zoran Mikić.
On the other hand, the strongest opposition club is certain that the red button is the right choice.
"This Prosecutor's Office arrests, persecutes and intimidates critics of this government, that is, this Prosecutor's Office is in the service of the survival of this parliamentary majority. The Democratic Party of Socialists has filed dozens of criminal charges for misconduct committed by representatives of the current government, who have predominantly abused their official positions, and that all of these charges are in Vladimir Novović's drawers and that he obviously has no intention of taking them out of the drawer," said DPS MP Sonja Popović.
The first autumn session of the Parliament begins on Monday, and this item is only in the second half of the proposed agenda, which will certainly be expanded. Therefore, it could happen that this issue is not even discussed next week, especially if the party calculators have not finished the calculations, that is, they have not summed up the accounts.
