Former Director of the Health Insurance Fund Vuk Kadić expects that members of the Parliamentary Committee on Health will allow him to attend the session today, after Committee Chairman Dražen Petrić did not allow him to do so yesterday.
Kadić said on "Colors of Morning" on Vijesti Television that he does not intend to use the session to show down Minister of Health Vojislav Šimun, but rather that he wants to present expert information about the financial situation in the healthcare system.
"The courts will make the final decision on my dismissal. I will not discuss it at the Committee," said Kadić, adding that he was told that MPs would decide on his presence at 11 a.m. today.
Regarding the 2026 budget, Kadić and former Fund director Sead Čirgić again warned that the proposed funds are not sufficient to avoid medicine shortages, rising debts, and new pressures on healthcare staff.
Kadić states that the minimum necessary for the stable functioning of the system is around 520 to 525 million euros, with a rebalance for the current year and the return of jurisdiction to the Fund.
Čirgić assesses that the abolition of health insurance contributions is a turning point that led to the rapid growth of costs and burden on public finances.
"No economy can withstand a growth in healthcare costs of ten percent per year," he warns, adding that at the same time, private consumption by citizens is increasing and patients are turning to the private sector due to long waiting lists and poorer availability of services.
Kadić repeated the warning that without an additional 20 million euros by the end of the year, deliveries of the most expensive therapies, especially oncological and biological, will be jeopardized.
"There is no patient who can pay for 20.000 euros of therapy out of pocket," he stressed.
