The reconstruction work on Slobode Street, which began at the end of August, will be completed in January 2026, the Podgorica Construction and Development Agency confirmed.
As stated by Boje jutra, the delay is not the result of the contractor's negligence, and therefore there is no basis for charging a penalty.
When asked about quality control and possible penalties, Sanja Čukić from the Agency explains that supervision is continuous and comprehensive.
"The agency is the expert supervisor of this work. For each type of work - electrical, high and low voltage, hydraulic engineering, traffic, signaling, landscape architecture - a licensed engineer is hired. The contractor must submit all certificates for the installed material and conduct field tests, such as testing the subgrade or pipelines," says Čukić.
He points out that the increase in the project's value stems solely from additional work ordered by the supervisor.
Upon completion of the project, the road will get a completely new look, with improved infrastructure and an expanded pedestrian zone.
"A new tree-lined avenue will be installed, identical to the one in the previously landscaped part of Slobode Street. The paving will be done with pink marble with a granite border, while the central part will be paved with granite prisms. The sidewalks are being widened to about 6,5 meters, due to the large number of pedestrians," the Agency points out.
