The Director of the Environmental Protection Agency, Milan Gazdić, denied the claims of the President of the Municipality of Pljevlja, Dario Vraneš, that the main cause of air pollution is the Thermal Power Plant, and pointed out that it is still being investigated whether the TPP is in trial operation without an active desulfurization system, and that the Agency will receive data from the automatic analyzer on the TPP chimney during the day.
"It is not true that the Agency confirmed that the Thermal Power Plant is the only cause of pollution. We have pointed to all possible sources, four to five thousand individual furnaces, city boiler rooms and industrial plants... We are awaiting data from the Electric Power Company, as well as reports from CETI and the Hydrometeorological Institute. After combining this data, it will be possible to draw final conclusions," Gazdić said on "Colors of Morning" on TV Vijesti.
He added that, in accordance with the action plan, urgent measures are foreseen, including the closure of large boiler houses, a ban on the sale of coal to individual combustion plants, and if the exceedances are repeated, the reduction or shutdown of pollution sources, including the Thermal Power Plant.
The environmental movement "Breznica" from Pljevlja announced in "Boje jutra" an initiative to exempt citizens from paying for electricity when permitted concentrations of pollutants are exceeded and plans a petition and possible referendum to force the competent institutions to take urgent action.
