The Association of Parents of Children with Developmental Disabilities, which has existed since 2007, received the "December 19th" award for its activities and achieved results in improving the overall position of children and youth with developmental disabilities.

"This award means enormous recognition and satisfaction for us for 18 years of effort and work. We are proud of everything we have achieved and grateful to the jury that decided to recognize our work," said Milisav Korać, president of the Association, while appearing on Boje jutra on TV Vijesti.

The association currently has 195 children and young people with various types of developmental disabilities, while the number of parents exceeds 370. Korac emphasized that their association is the largest in Montenegro, with a large number of employed experts.

"We have five physiotherapists, three speech therapists, two special education teachers, psychologists, as well as native and English language teachers. Our organization provides the widest range of services and treatments for children. When after a year, two, or even five years we see a child start walking, leave their aids behind, or start talking, that is the greatest reward for us and for parents. Parents are often emotional about these changes, and even the professionals who work with children are satisfied with the results achieved," said Korać.

This award has additional significance because, as Korac emphasized, the association has become the first non-governmental organization to receive such a prestigious recognition in the last few years, which is considered an incentive for other organizations to follow their example.
