Although promoted as routine and safe procedures, some cosmetic procedures can have serious health consequences, leaving permanent physical and psychological problems.
Guesting on Boje jutra on TV Vijesti, specialist in general, plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, Zoran Terzić warned that non-surgical aesthetic treatments such as Botox, hyaluronic fillers and mesonite are not without risk.
"In order to do anything on the face, one must know the anatomy perfectly. There is no part of the skin on the face that does not have important structures underneath it - blood vessels, nerves, muscles. Even though I have extensive experience, I always have a dose of fear because you are inserting a needle into the tissue and you cannot see what is happening under the skin. It is absolutely possible that bruising and hematoma may occur. These are complications that usually resolve in seven to ten days, but the patient must be warned that this can happen," said Terzić.
He states that during his career he has witnessed more serious unintended consequences.
"I have had situations where a patient cannot close their eyelid after Botox. This is extremely unpleasant and creates great fear, as it leads to dry eye syndrome and serious discomfort until the effect of Botox wears off. The patient must know what is being done, how it is being done, and what the possible complications are. Signing the consent means that the patient has understood everything and accepted the risks. The experience and expertise of the doctor are the best recommendation for whom to entrust their health," said Terzić.
