The arrest of Aco Đukanović on suspicion of illegal possession and carrying of weapons and explosives has raised the question of whether this case can be viewed as a crackdown on crime or on individuals close to political opponents of the current government, given that he is the brother of former DPS leader, Prime Minister and President of Montenegro Milo Đukanović.
This question is also being asked by representatives of the civil sector with many years of experience in investigating suspicious dealings of the Đukanović family, stating that Aco Đukanović has been linked to potentially much more serious crimes in the past, but that there has been no serious investigation into this to date.
