On May 21, 2006, Montenegro, by the decision of its citizens in a referendum, restored its state independence, almost nine decades after losing its status as an independent state. Today, two decades later, we celebrate an anniversary that for some represents a historic victory, and for others a date that still raises numerous social and identity questions. To what extent have we truly achieved what the Constitution guarantees us? Have we achieved the ideals of restoring independence in 20 years, or are we still searching for a social and state identity? What kind of state have we built and what awaits us next?
