Ministry of Interior is looking for 500 new police officers: For the first time, candidates with high school diplomas are also eligible to apply

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has announced a competition for the recruitment of 500 new police officers, and interested candidates can apply until June 28th.

As announced by State Secretary Dragana Kažanegra Stanišić, the new amendments to the Law on Internal Affairs have, for the first time, enabled candidates with a fourth-level education to apply for the competition.

"Now even people with high school diplomas can apply. This serious personnel reform should result in a significant strengthening of the Police Directorate," said Kažanegra Stanišić.

She pointed out that the aim of the competition is to solve the long-standing problem of a shortage of police officers, especially in the border police sector. "The greatest shortage of police officers is recorded in the border police sector. We are faced with numerous demands in terms of strengthening human resources, bearing in mind that the border of Montenegro will also be the border of the European Union," she said.

According to her, the lack of personnel is also present in other organizational units, including the sector for combating organized crime and special police units.

Candidates must be Montenegrin citizens, at least 18 years old, have completed high school, have appropriate psychophysical abilities, and pass security checks.

The age limit for application is up to 32 years, or up to 40 years for candidates with previous work experience in the security sector.

After being hired, future police officers will undergo four months of training in cooperation with the Police Academy.

"Citizens want a greater presence of police officers in public places - in front of schools, hospitals, sports and cultural facilities," said Kažanegra Stanišić.

She emphasized that advancement in the service will be based solely on performance and professional competencies.

"No one will advance any more because of their party membership or political beliefs, but solely on the basis of competence, commitment and professionalism," she pointed out.

The State Secretary invited all interested parties to find detailed information about the competition conditions and required documentation on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

"This is not the end of the public calls. This is the beginning of solving the serious problem of the lack of personnel in the security system," concluded Kažanegra Stanišić.
