Kotor: Tankers with drinking water from today on the ground from Dobrota to Risan, tap water is still not drinkable

Due to increased water salinity in the area from Dobrota to Risan, starting today, cisterns with drinking water for citizens have been deployed at several locations in Kotor, announced in Boje jutra, the director of the Kotor Water Supply and Sewerage Company, Đuro Marković.

He said that technical water with increased salinity is currently distributed in that part of the municipality, which is microbiologically and chemically correct, but is not intended for drinking.

"I must once again apologize to all our fellow citizens who have a problem with a lack of drinking water. We are currently supplying technical water, that is, water with increased salinity. It is microbiologically and chemically correct, but it is not suitable for drinking," said Marković.

Drinking water tanks will be available today from 7 am to 15 pm at the following locations: Dobrota - Kamp, Sveta Vrača, Perast, Risan, Orahovac.

As Marković stated, the schedule will be adjusted to the needs of citizens, and starting Monday it will be published on the websites of Vodovod, the Municipality of Kotor, and Radio Kotor.

"We will follow the analysis and the voice of the people. This is the first time we have embarked on this kind of organization, so everything is subject to change," he said.

Citizens who are unable to reach the cisterns due to age or health conditions can call Vodovod Kotor, whose teams will, as announced, deliver water to home addresses.

Marković warned that additional load on the system is expected in the coming days due to the holidays and a larger number of tourists.

"We expect huge spending from today to Wednesday, due to the holidays and increased number of visitors. It will be a challenge, but I believe we will respond to it," he said.

The Director of the Waterworks emphasized that the water currently delivered from Dobrota to Risan can be used for bathing, washing and other household needs.

"The water is chlorinated, microbiologically and chemically safe. It is not for drinking, but can be used for all other needs," he pointed out.

According to him, there is a possibility that the situation will soon improve naturally.

"Last year, the Orahovac spring sweetened around July 10th. We hope that this could happen again in the next few days. It is a process that happens practically overnight," said Marković.

The water supply currently takes 175 liters of water per second from the Regional Water Supply Company, which is the maximum available quantity.

Drinking water is currently available in the settlements of Grbalj, the area along the boulevard, Trojica, Škaljari, Muo, Prčanj, Stoliv, Strp, Kostanjica and Morinj.

Marković also reminded that the tender for the reconstruction of the submarine pipeline damaged during the arrival of the cruise ship has been completed, which, after repair, would enable more efficient water transport towards Dobrota and significantly contribute to solving the problem.
