Kos: Montenegro must maintain the pace of reforms, especially in the area of ​​the rule of law

European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos continued her working day in Montenegro with a large underwater clean-up campaign in the Bay of Kotor, as part of the national environmental campaign "Take care, let it take care of you", with Prime Minister Milojko Spajić.

From Perast, she welcomed the adoption and implementation of the agreement between the government and the opposition in favor of the country's European path.

"There is still a lot of work ahead of you. The coming months will be crucial. Montenegro must maintain the pace of reforms, especially in the area of ​​the rule of law. I welcome the agreement reached this week by the parliamentary majority and the opposition on legislation related to EU reforms. This is an important step towards finding common ground on key decisions for Montenegro's European future. I now expect that agreement to be implemented. This is the unity that needs to be shown in Montenegro in order to cross the finish line and achieve EU membership," said Kos.

Spajić said he hopes that an agreement will be reached next week to vote on the remaining two members of the Constitutional Court.

"I think there will be many more reforms where we can show together, both the government and the opposition, that we really care about the rule of law, that we really care about the European path, and I expect that the opposition will of course, together with the government, there is no reason not to expect otherwise. I hope that next week we will reach an agreement to vote on the remaining two members of the Constitutional Court. I think that would be a phenomenal message and I personally have great support for that to happen as soon as possible. So that we can send a message to Brussels that Montenegro is simply going full steam towards membership and that nothing will stop us on that path," said Spajić.

Kos arrived in Montenegro yesterday. She said at the time that she flew to Montenegro on a famous plane with the marking "28 by 28".

"This is Montenegro's goal - to become the 28th member state of the European Union by 2028," Kos announced yesterday on the social network Facebook.

Earlier today, Kos attended a working breakfast hosted by the Speaker of the Parliament of Montenegro, Andrija Mandić.

Last night, she attended a reception in Cetinje to mark the Statehood Day of Montenegro.
