Workers of the Railway Transport of Montenegro, led by the United Workers' Union, held a one-hour warning strike. During this time, passenger rail traffic in Montenegro was suspended from 9 am to 10 am.
The president of the Unified Union of Railway Workers, Miroslav Babović, said in "Colors of Morning" on TV Vijesti that they are asking the authorities to temporarily increase wages by 200 euros, until the adoption and implementation of a new collective agreement.
"The average salary in rail transport is 850 to 870 euros, which is about 200 euros less than the national average," said Babović.
He recalled that employees were granted 200 euros in assistance in February, but that the amount was later reduced and then completely abolished.
Babović also warned of problems with the rolling stock, stating that numerous breakdowns, delays, and two fires on electric trains were recorded during the season.
According to him, more than 210 workers will join today's strike, while Railway Transport employs around 370 to 380 people.
The union expects a reaction from the authorities by September 9. If no agreement is reached, they announce further radicalization of the protests, including a complete traffic stoppage and minimal work processes.
