In less than a month since the start of the implementation of stricter rules for illegal parking and stopping, the Municipal Police in Podgorica have issued around four thousand misdemeanor warrants.

The Municipal Police say that, despite the large number of fines, the situation on the streets is somewhat better, and traffic is flowing more smoothly.

"As of yesterday, around 4.000 misdemeanor warrants have been issued, while between 100 and 150 fines are recorded on a daily basis. The expectations are that this number, depending on the situation on the ground, will be up to 150 to 200 fines per day, through work in three shifts. Collection is around 40 percent. The picture is much better. You can see that the traffic flow is at a more enviable level," said Petar Jovetić from the Municipal Police.

The beginning of September and the new school year have further increased the pressure on roads, especially near schools and kindergartens. These locations were among the priorities of the Municipal Police, which conducted controls in cooperation with the traffic police.

According to Jovetić, coordinated actions have yielded results, so the situation around schools and kindergartens is now better than before. However, reports of illegal parking are coming from all parts of Podgorica, and the Municipal Police, as he states, is trying to react to every report.

The fine for violations of illegal stopping and parking that are included in the new authorizations is 100 euros, while payment within eight days reduces the amount to 50 euros. As Jovetić reminded, citizens are also provided with the opportunity to seek judicial decision-making.

A special appeal was made to taxi drivers. Jovetić reminded that, in accordance with regulations, taxis can wait for up to five minutes when waiting for a customer in situations stipulated by law, but that they must be careful where they stop the vehicle.

As an example, he cited the corner between Stanko Dragojevića Boulevard and Ivana Crnojevića Street, where taxis stop near protective bollards and can thus disrupt the flow of traffic.

The Municipal Police say that controls will continue in the coming period, with the aim of reducing the number of illegally parked vehicles and increasing safety and traffic flow in Podgorica.
