Montenegrin citizen BO (27) was arrested in Malta on suspicion of being a member of a criminal group that has been supplying cocaine, marijuana and synthetic drugs to criminal groups in Malta for an extended period of time.
Members of the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs, in cooperation with the Maltese police, arrested, in addition to BO, NV (28), a Serbian citizen.
N1 reports that through operational work by the Serbian and Maltese police, BO and NV were identified, for whom there was a reasonable suspicion that they were couriers of a criminal group, who transport narcotics to buyers in Malta in passenger vehicles, in previously constructed cavities/crates, according to the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
This criminal group, made up of citizens of Serbia and Montenegro, uses women and minors as traveling companions, in order to hide the true intention of the trip.
The Maltese Police's Drug Enforcement Unit stopped a car yesterday containing suspects BO and N. V, as well as a two-year-old girl.
During the search, it was first noticed that the car had changed its Serbian license plates to Swiss ones, while three kilograms of cocaine, 20 kilograms of marijuana and 1.000 ecstasy tablets were found in the cavities and double backrest of the rear seat, the Ministry of Interior added.
The suspects were remanded in custody by Maltese judicial authorities, while the two-year-old girl was handed over to the competent social services.
