The High Court in Podgorica postponed the start of the retrial for the robbery of the post office in Nikšić and the murder of Ljubiša Mrdak again today.

The reason for the postponement of the trial is the failure of the accused Stefan Regojević to appear.

His defense attorney, attorney Srđan Lješković, told the court that Regojević arrived at the Vracenovići border crossing where Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) police told him that he could not enter Montenegro because a warrant had been issued for him by the competent authorities in Montenegro.

The president of the special panel, Judge Veljko Radovanović, said that he would request information about whether Regojević was at the border crossing and whether a warrant had been issued for him.

The next trial is scheduled for March 31st.

Mrdak was killed on October 20, 2021, in the parking lot of the new Post Office in Nikšić during a robbery while he was guarding pension payment money. Masked robbers stole over 400 euros on that occasion, and the money was never recovered.

Suspects Mitar Knežević, Stojan Albijanić, Nemanja Miljković, Petar Zolak, Srđan Svjetlanović, David Banjac and Stefan Regojević were arrested in record time, but the Podgorica High Court acquitted them of the charges in February last year.

The defendants are being tried again after the Court of Appeals in November last year accepted the appeals of the Higher State Prosecutor's Office, the Mrdak family, and the Post of Montenegro and overturned the first-instance verdict of the Higher Court that acquitted them of the charges.

The start of the trial in the Podgorica High Court was postponed to December 16th.

Most of the defendants did not appear at the main trial because they were banned from entering Montenegro.

Some of the defendants then crossed the Vraćenovići border crossing, while others were informed that they had a five-year ban on entering Montenegro and had to return from the border. The ban was imposed on Petar Zolak, Stojan Albijanić, Nemanja Miljković and Srđan Svjetlanović, and judge Veljko Radovanović said at the time that he would request confirmation from the Ministry of Interior that their entry was banned.

According to the indictment, in October 2021, the defendants stole 423.000 euros intended for pension payments from the late Ljubiša Mrdak, Dragiša Dendić and Igor Ivanović at gunpoint. On that occasion, they fired several shots, one of which hit Ljubiša in the chest.
