Recently extradited Ivan Lješković was not ready to present his defense today in the case in which he is being tried for cigarette smuggling, which is why the trial of the criminal group of undercover agent Duško Golubović and the owner of "Rokšped" Sander Stanaj was postponed.

The trial before the special panel of Judge Branislav Leković has been postponed to June 8th.

The defendant was extradited from Slovenia on May 8, and the president of the special chamber, Branislav Leković, accepted the request for a postponement filed by Lješković's lawyer, Ivan Šljukić.

According to the Special State Prosecutor's Office (SDT), Lješković is part of a criminal group formed by the accused secret agent Duško Golubović and the fugitive owner of "Rokšped" Sander Stanaj.

After the judge of the Higher Court in Podgorica, Branislav Leković, read the submission of lawyer Šljukić, Lješković's legal representative repeated the proposal for a postponement.

"I delivered the indictment to him on Friday, he didn't read it, nor did he speak five words to me," he said.

The judge explained that Lješković was served with the indictment on May 8 after the hearing, stating that the legal deadline is eight days, but that it can be shortened if the defendant agrees.

"I am not ready because I did not have enough time to familiarize myself with the indictment and present my defense today," said Ivan Lješković, answering the judge's question whether he agreed to the trial taking place.

Defendant Prokopije Perić asked Judge Leković to provide him with the indictment in electronic form, stating that they had the possibility of using laptops in their cells.

He was arrested on April 11 in Slovenia on the basis of an Interpol warrant issued by Podgorica. Criminal proceedings are being conducted against him on the basis of reasonable suspicion that he committed the crimes of creating a criminal organization and smuggling as an accomplice.

Lješković is suspected of having committed the criminal offenses he is charged with by carrying out, as a member of an organized criminal group, criminal activities related to the transfer of cigarettes, as goods whose circulation is restricted, across the customs line while avoiding customs supervision measures, and of subsequently participating in the sale, distribution, concealment and smuggling of cigarettes from the Port of Bar Free Customs Zone to countries in the region and the European Union, the Police Directorate announced earlier.
