One person killed, 16 injured in accident near Risan

A 21-year-old girl died from injuries sustained in a traffic accident in the town of Lipci, on the Lipci - Grahovo main road.

Another 16 people were injured and were sent to the "Vaso Ćuković" Special Hospital in Risan after the accident.

Both the victim and the other injured are Serbian citizens, said the director of the institution, Dino Panjako.

He told TV Vijesti that the ten-year-old child, after resuscitation, was sent, accompanied by an anesthesiologist and anesthesiologist, to the Clinical Center of Montenegro due to severe injuries to internal organs.

The accident at 13:10 p.m. involved one vehicle.

"The traffic accident occurred when the minibus, which was traveling from the direction of Nikšić, made contact with a stone slope located along the road, on the right side of the roadway, which caused the vehicle to overturn," the Police Directorate announced.

"Of the 17 injured passengers, one person has since died from their injuries - an adult female," they added in the statement.

The minibus was driven by Lj.M. (68) from Kotor, from whom police officers will take a statement on the circumstances surrounding the traffic accident.

The on-site investigation was led by the state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Kotor.

"Police and prosecutorial activities are being undertaken to determine all the facts of this incident. The cause of the traffic accident is being investigated, and preliminary data indicates that it was due to fatigue and drowsiness of the driver," the police announced.

The "Vaso Ćuković" Special Hospital in Risan announced that the on-duty team of that institution received a call from the Emergency Medical Service at around 14 p.m. that a serious traffic accident had occurred near Lipci in which several people were injured.

"In the period from 14 to 15 p.m., a total of 17 people were brought to our facility, one of whom was resuscitated immediately upon admission due to his serious general condition, but died due to the severity of his injuries," the statement reads.

They said that a ten-year-old child, also after resuscitation, was sent to the KCCG, accompanied by an anesthesiologist and anesthesiologist, due to multiple injuries to internal organs.

One patient was referred to the Kotor Clinical Hospital Center due to an isolated surgical injury.

"The remaining 14 patients have been fully diagnostically processed and are being treated at our institution. Five patients have been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, seven to the Orthopedics Unit and two patients to the Neurosurgery Unit. Nine patients have serious physical injuries, five have minor injuries, but all are currently in stable general condition and are not life-threatening," the statement reads.
