Digital transformation should be implemented in a way that puts people at the center of attention, ensuring that technology serves to improve working conditions, said the Institute of Public Health (UZCG).

They made this announcement on the occasion of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, which is celebrated every year on April 28th with the aim of promoting safe, healthy and dignified work around the world.

They said the day serves as a reminder of the importance of creating safe and healthy working conditions for all workers, and this year it is being celebrated under the slogan: "Revolutionizing occupational health and safety: the role of artificial intelligence and digitalization." The theme focuses on the impact of digitalization and artificial intelligence (AI) on worker safety and health.

"The introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies brings new opportunities for improving occupational safety. Robots can now perform dangerous tasks, such as handling toxic materials or working in extreme conditions, thereby reducing the risk to human health. Smart sensors and digital tools enable early detection of potential hazards, which contributes to better prevention of injuries and accidents at work," the IJZCG announced.

However, they point out, it is important to be aware of the new challenges brought by digitalization.

"Without adequate safeguards, these technologies can lead to increased stress, reduced control over work tasks, and disrupted work-life balance. The implementation of artificial intelligence systems often involves extensive data collection, which raises concerns about employee privacy. Overreliance on AI can reduce social interactions among employees, affecting collaboration and workplace culture. The automation of tasks traditionally performed by humans raises concerns about job security and the need for new skills that arise as a result of technological advances," they add.

They indicate that the regulatory approach to artificial intelligence and digitalization in the workplace is still in the development phase.

"Therefore, it is crucial that digital transformation is implemented in a way that puts people at the center of attention, ensuring that technology serves to improve working conditions. The Institute of Public Health of Montenegro, in cooperation with the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, continuously works to improve occupational safety and health through education, promotion of healthy lifestyles and implementation of modern technologies," the statement reads.
