All activities related to the establishment of a legal waste management system in Nikšić were carried out in communication with the relevant Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Development of the North and the Environmental Protection Agency, the Municipality of Nikšić announced today.
The local government issued a statement regarding, as they stated, "another in a series of false criminal reports filed by the Nikšić DPS Municipal Board."
The Municipal Board of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) Nikšić announced earlier today that it has filed another criminal complaint against the President of the Municipality of Nikšić, Marko Kovačević, on suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of abuse of official position under Article 416 of the Criminal Code of Montenegro.
The Municipality of Nikšić stated in a statement that after the outbreak of surface fires at the uncontrolled "Mislov do" landfill, the Environmental Protection Agency ordered them to implement urgent preventive and remediation measures, in order to prevent, or eliminate, damage and immediate danger of damage to human health and the environment, resulting from the outbreak of the fire.
"This was done first by a phone call to the Mayor of the Municipality, Marko Kovačević, and then by submitting the official decision of the Environmental Protection Agency No. 03-UPI-1504/2 dated 25, which, among other things, included the transportation of municipal waste to the nearest sanitary landfill, which is the landfill in Podgorica," the statement states.
The Municipality of Nikšić added that even before the outbreak of surface fires, they had signed a contract on the disposal of municipal waste with the Podgorica Landfill, because, as they said, the ongoing internal fire remediation project required the cessation of waste deliveries to the Mislov do landfill.
The Municipality of Nikšić submitted the Agency's decision, as well as a letter from the Municipality of Nikšić to the relevant Ministry.
