Residents of the Zeta village of Botun today blocked the roundabout on the main road towards Cetinje in the Podgorica settlement of Donja Gorica, the road in the Zeta village of Bistrice, as well as the Bar-Podgorica railway.
After several hours of blockades, they unblocked all these roads.
Due to the blockade in Bistrice, huge traffic jams formed on the road, and as Vijesti readers previously reported, due to the blockade, columns of cars almost reached Virpazar.
The railway news unofficially confirmed that the people of Botunja have unblocked the Bar-Podgorica railway.
Due to this blockade, the local train from Bar to Bijelo Polje is about an hour late.
Earlier today, residents of Botuni also blocked the roundabout on the road between Zeta and Podgorica near the Voli logistics center for some time.
They oppose the construction of a wastewater treatment plant in the Zeta village of Botun.
The President of the Municipality of Zeta, Mihailo Asanović, said from the blockade in Donja Gorica that the protest blockades will, by all accounts, continue.
He pointed out that locals have been opposing the construction of the collector since the previous government, emphasizing that during that period, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić was not in power, which is why, as he said, it is pointless to link him to current events.
Asanović said that the protests are not politically motivated.
Botun resident Jagoš Bećirović said that the blockades will last until the machinery is removed from the construction site in Botun and until the Podgorica authorities, as he stated, "come to their senses."
He apologized to the citizens of Podgorica and Montenegro for the traffic jams, emphasizing that the locals are not responsible for such a situation.
He directly blamed Podgorica Mayor Saša Mujović and his administration for the protests, stating that the problem is being solved "by force and in a sloppy manner." He added that Mujović inherited the problem, but that the way it is being approached is unacceptable.
Bećirović also said that blockades were organized in Bistrice, Mataguži and Donja Gorica, emphasizing that the residents of Botuni were denied basic rights and warning that the same could happen to others tomorrow.
Bojan Terzić from the Zeta village of Srpska said that he felt sorry for the innocent citizens, but that the locals were forced to put their health and lives first.
He stated that the residents of the area have been poisoned for six decades, as he said, and that the authorities have been silent for years. He asked where the political entities and environmental parties that advocate for the protection of nature are, saying that they are fighting so that they do not suffer the same fate as their ancestors. Terzić called on students, businessmen and all people of good will to support the protests.
Residents of the Zagorič Forest Park blocked the roundabout for Zlatica for about 40 minutes
Residents of the Podgorica settlement of Park Šuma Zagorič blocked the roundabout in the Podgorica settlement of Zlatica, at the entrance to the highway, for about 40 minutes today.
They did this in protest of, as they say, the high interest rates the state charged them for paying for state-owned plots of land on which they built houses about 20 years ago.
They stated that they are requesting that the court costs and interest that were, according to them, imposed on them in the land restitution proceedings be waived.
They also said that they are demanding a review of the decisions that returned the land to private ownership, emphasizing that they believe the procedure was unfair to the current users of those plots.
They announced that they will block that roundabout for half an hour in the coming days, from 15:00 PM to 15:30 PM.
According to unofficial information from "Vijesti", the residents of Botuni planned to block several roads through Podgorica.
