The space of the Bajić House is not adequate for the accommodation and presentation of a rich ethnographic collection, and the idea of building a new building for the Local History Museum in Pljevlja should be reconsidered.
This is stated by the director Dejana Drobnjak in the Work Program of the Homeland Museum, referring to the opinion of the municipal commission that analyzed the feasibility of this idea. The Bajić House, a residential building from the 19th century, was previously assigned to the Homeland Museum with the intention of establishing an ethnographic museum there.
Due to decades of lack of investment and neglect, the building is in an extremely poor structural condition and requires comprehensive reconstruction in order to be adapted for museum purposes. However, according to the preliminary opinion of the commission, even after reconstruction, the space available for exhibition activities would be only 58 square meters, which was assessed as insufficient for an adequate presentation of the valuable ethnographic collection at the Museum's disposal.
The commission's report suggested, as a longer-term solution, the consideration of building a new facility intended for museum activities, which would enable a comprehensive and contemporary presentation of the ethnographic collection.
On the other hand, the need to prevent further deterioration of the Bajić House was highlighted. As an alternative use, the possibility of its reconstruction into a cultural or youth hub center was mentioned.
Despite these findings, the conceptual design for the reconstruction of the Bajić House was completed a few days ago. The author of the conceptual design is a Pljevljan woman, Dr. Marija Milikic, Doctor of Architecture.
President of the Municipality of Pljevlja dr Dario Vranes He announced that the next step will be to announce a tender for the development of the main project, as well as planning funds in the 2026 budget.
